Therapy skills meet trail skills.

A nature-based mental health program from Delis Counseling Group that combines practical coping skills, mindfulness, and outdoor experiences.

Because sometimes working on yourself involves a conversation. Sometimes it involves learning something new, getting outside, and realizing you can handle more than you thought.

Wild Resilience brings mental health skills and outdoor education together through classes, practice hikes, and optional backpacking trips. All programming is facilitated by a licensed mental health professional.

We work on managing stress, handling uncomfortable emotions, building confidence, and navigating uncertainty while learning practical skills for spending time outdoors.

You don’t need backpacking experience, expensive equipment, or a relentlessly positive attitude. Curiosity and a willingness to try are a good place to start.

Classes combine discussion, hands-on activities, and practical skills you can use on the trail and in everyday life.

Topics include:

  • Managing anxiety, frustration, and the urge to quit when things get difficult.

  • Grounding, mindfulness, and emotional regulation.

  • Asking for help, communicating needs, and setting boundaries.

  • Building confidence through manageable challenges.

  • Choosing equipment and packing a backpack.

  • Trail safety, navigation, food, and hydration.

  • Caring for the places we explore through Leave No Trace practices.

You might practice a grounding exercise, learn to set up a tent, and talk about what happens in your head when something doesn’t go as planned. There’s room for all of it.

Classes | January–May
Two classes each month, lasting approximately two to three hours. Each class is offered twice at different times, with a catch-up option to help accommodate schedules.

Practice Hikes and Outings
Free opportunities to try your gear, practice skills, and get more comfortable outdoors. Outings are planned one to two times monthly, weather permitting.

Backpacking Trips | Beginning in June
Optional three-day trips designed for beginner to intermediate participants. Trips are limited to six people and include guided outdoor experiences, group work, and an individual check-in session.

You can participate in classes without committing to a backpacking trip.

Wild Resilience may be a good fit if you want to:

  • Learn practical ways to manage stress and feel more grounded.

  • Build confidence trying unfamiliar things.

  • Connect with others in a supportive setting.

  • Explore hiking and camping with guidance.

  • Enjoy outdoor recreation in a completely sober environment.

You don’t need outdoor experience or expensive gear. Bring some curiosity and a willingness to try—we’ll help with the rest. People of all genders are welcome.

Age Requirements

Participants must be 14 or older. Those ages 14–17 must attend with a responsible adult who is also enrolled in and participating in the classes and attends any camping trips with them. Children under 14 cannot participate at this time.

Before a camping trip, we’ll talk through your readiness, support needs, and whether the planned experience is a good fit.

Classes: $25 each
Practice hikes and outings: Free
Three-day beginner camping trips: $200 per person
Three-day intermediate trips: $250 per person

Trips include equipment, food, transportation, and professional guidance. Participation is pay-as-you-go, trips are optional, and payment arrangements are available.

For backpacking trips, equipment, food, and transportation are included. Participants provide their own clothing and footwear, with a clothing loan closet available to help fill gaps.

You don’t need to buy a bunch of gear before you know whether you even like backpacking.
